True Tales of the Paranormal

For those of you who believe in Parallel Universes and Time Warps, here's a collection of parallel universes and time warp stories. Hope you enjoy them!

Lost in the Woods

By Sarah

A friend of mine went on a weekend camping trip with a group who was going to sleep under the stars and create community together in the woods. She set out with the leader of the group before the remainder of the participants arrived to set up camp.

After the tents had been pitched and the fire circle created, the leader left to direct traffic back at the turnoff to the campsite. My friend decided to go for a short hike while he was gone.

Off and into the woods she ventured only to find after a short while that the sign posts the forestry service had installed were no longer there; the trees had become burned out stumps and she had no idea where she was. She had not been walking long enough to get lost. She was simply "somewhere else".

She spent the entire afternoon in the midst of a burned forest, walking around in the detritus looking for the way back to the camp. In her reality, there was no path or camp. By nightfall, she had resigned herself to sleeping alone in this neglected wilderness until she suddenly saw headlights appearing in the distance. She began walking toward them and as she did so, the environment she was "in" began to become healthy, full grown trees. The signposts reappeared and she walked now on the original path/road she had set out on earlier that day.

Upon coming to the set of the headlights, it became apparent that the leader had been out driving around looking for her since she had not returned to camp as dusk fell. No one had been able to find her until the headlights intersected with "her reality" and she began walking toward them.

In this example here, my friend and the leader in the story were living in their own realities AT THE SAME time. They were living in parallel realities entangled in non-locality. They each were in resonance with the reality of their consciousness in their own time/space. Not until something "triggered" them did they intersect with the other person's reality; in this case, the headlights on the road.

The House that wasn't there

by Suzan

I swear this is a true story. My husband was carting wheat in the summer of 1994. He was outside Molong in NSW, Australia, and drove past a "For Sale" sign on a farm gate along with the agents details. Our 12-year-old son was with him. On the return journey, they stopped, climbed through the fence and walked up the circle-shaped drive to have a closer look at the old house. He said he could see through the window and found the old house old and abandoned.

On his return home a few days later, we rang up the agent and asked for further details about the property, as we were interested in purchasing it. The agent had no idea what we were talking about and insisted that he had no properties for sale on that road. A week later, my husband and I drove to Molong to have a look at the farm ourselves. We drove up and down the whole road until we were almost to the next town. All that he could recognize was a water tank on the hill, a creek and some trees where the house used to be. There was no gate, drive, real estate sign... or house.

London Time Slip

by Ronnie M

I live in London and it was late October, 1969, and I was walking home late one Saturday night. I had to walk through an underpass, which was under the busy North Circular Road. It was cold and late and I was surprised to see about five kids down there collecting pennies for the Guy, being as firework night, 5th November, was soon. These kids should not have been out that late, seeing as the oldest was a girl aged about 12 years old and the others younger.

What shocked me were their clothes. Their attire made me think they had come straight out of 1920s or 1930s London. Their speech could have been taken straight from a Charles Dickens' novel. I heard one young boy say, "That other gent gave me a florin." At his age there is no way he could have known what a florin was, an old English coin for the then two shillings. This was the late 1960s and kids certainly didn't use words like "gent" anymore. "Geezer" or "bloke" perhaps.

The girl approached me saying, "Evening sir, penny for the Guy, please, sir?" Her politeness shocked me, but I said I hadn't any money. She slid her arm through mine and she ran her hand down my sleeve saying, "Yes you do, sir. You are a fine gent. You do have money." I assured her I hadn't and I expected a rude mouthful, but she replied, "Ok, thank you, sir. You have a good evening, sir."

I knew I had to give these kids something, so I pulled a silver sixpence from my pocket and called her. I threw her the coin and she gave me a thank you and a beaming smile. I walked off into the night.

This experience bugged me bad. Who were those kids from the past? I asked local people if any kids were killed there during WW2, but nobody remembered. Did I meet ghosts? Kids from the past? I guess I will never know.

Phantom Basement

by Amy B

Something bizarre occurred in my life last year during Thanksgiving week. To give a little background, I live next door to an old woman, whose husband died five years ago. They have lived in the house for about 50 years and her husband built it. It's a smallish house, and in the 14 years I've lived next door, I had never been inside. I would chat with her over the fence sometimes.

One day last year, she came to the fence all upset and said there were men in her house and she could not get them to leave. Would I come over and ask them to please leave? I thought it strange and went over to see what she was talking about. I searched the whole house and found no one. Since she is in the beginning stages of dementia and was suffering from a urinary tract infection, which can exacerbate the situation, therefore causing her to hallucinate, I concluded that the "men" she was seeing was part of that hallucination.

However, in searching the house, I went down to her basement, which I found very unusual. It was small and had a "dug out" feeling. There was a wooden floor that gave way to dirt, and there was a big hole in the wall which was also lined with dirt. I looked at it and wondered why it was there. Did they use it for storage? It didn't seem to be a good place to put things because it looked like a big dirt tunnel, and it was so deep when I got close, I couldn't even see the end. I thought, Oh, this must be a root cellar and started looking for roots in the ceiling. It seemed so dark I couldn't find the "edges" of the room. In fact, the word "amorphous" came to mind. I left and told her there was no one in the house.

Two days later, she was on my doorstep with her bags all packed and she is thinking I am her employer from 50 years ago. I knew she wasn't well, so my husband and I walked her back home and subsequently took her to the hospital for treatment. I had told my husband about the basement upon my return home, two days previously. Now I wanted him to see it.

Well, when we went down... it wasn't the same place! It was roughly ten times larger, with a cement floor and white cinder block walls. In addition, it was filled with things I would have remembered: washer and dryer, an old ten-speed bike from decades earlier, a big pile of old stuffed animals that were also from decades earlier -- things I would have remembered. It was very well lit. I was mortified and searched all around the house again for that room with the big dirt tunnel. I never found it and she said this was her only basement.

So not only did I see the "first" basement with the dirt tunnel when I was searching the house, I never saw the "second" one until I returned with my husband. Both times, I searched every inch of the house. Don't forget, I was looking for someone and wanted to reassure her no one was there. It's a small place, so I couldn't have missed it. So I can't explain it. It bothers me a lot. I've Googled, but never found any similar situations. If anyone can offer up any insight, I would be most appreciative since I am not given to hallucinations and am not on drugs.

Dimension Shift in Hampshire

by Lia

In the summer of 2008 or there abouts, my fiancé's family spent a seven-day holiday in Hampshire New Forest. For anyone who does not know the area, it is mostly moorland/forest with horses and ponies roaming freely throughout. My fiancé and I decided to visit the family and stay at their chalet for the night, since they were only one or so hours away. We did this and all was fine.

However, that evening we went driving around the area looking for somewhere to get dinner. All was fine at first, though once we began driving through the moorland and forest areas things got a little more spooky. The road was not very well lit, and perhaps this is why things seemed distorted. For example, at one point I could see a horse walking the roadside ahead of us, though this soon dispersed. It seemed foggy, though I don't know if it was.

We were trying to follow our satellite navigate, though the roads seemed different somehow, which disoriented us. It was then we decided to make a u-turn, both of us looking for a turning point since the road was narrow with trees on both sides. Soon we saw a graveled driveway leading to a house, and so without saying a word, my fiancé stopped and reversed the car and turned on to the driveway in order to turn around. The second that the wheels of our car reached the driveway, the house and driveway vanished and in their place was forest land and trees, just like the rest of the landscape.

It was only then that we both looked at each other. I think i was the first to say, "Huh. I thought we were on a driveway. I saw it." My fiancé was equally dumbfounded. "I know," he said. "That is why I turned here." We both agreed on what we had seen, but cannot explained what happened.

Church Time Slip

by Troy B

I live in the Northeast of England working as a taxi driver. In late November, 2009 I was on my way to pick up a regular customer to take her shopping. While I was on the way there, the car started to struggle, as if it was running out of fuel and then cut out. I rolled it to the side of the road and left it a few seconds and tried to start it up, but no good. I then got onto the radio, but it was dead. Okay, sometimes that happens.

I used my mobile to tell HQ about the breakdown, but I couldn't get a signal. I then got out of the car and realised that it was now dark, yet it was only about 3:30 in the afternoon. Great. That's me walking into town (about 3-4 miles). Suddenly, I got lightheaded and faint, so I got back into the car to sit for a few minutes before I'd start to walk to town. I suddenly woke to daylight, as if I'd been asleep. So I checked the time and it had only been a couple of minutes.

I tried to start the car and it does start, so I carried on to my pickup. Just up the road about a half a mile is a church. When I looked at it, I thought to myself, It's about time that place was done up. I arrived at my pickup and told her I had car problems. And then I mentioned about the church that been done up like new. She looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "What are you on about? It's still a dump, like it's been for years."

So I bet her that it looks like new again. We drive a few miles, and this by this time it was getting a little bit dark. As we approached the church, I said, "Right! Have a look at that!" And I slowed down to let her have a good look. But the church was all boarded up and scruffy looking! I stopped the car in disbelief as I'd just seen it 20 minutes earlier looking like new!

I have been looking for answers on the Internet and I believe this to be a time slip or something like that. Very puzzled to this day.

The Hole Truth

by Pearl Nestor

I don't know if this was a time slip or what it was. When I was five and my brother was four, we used to share a room. We lived in a small two bedroom trailer in Brillion, Wisconsin. The year was 1962. I swear this is not a dream.

I could tell even at that age the difference between dreams and actual events, however strange they may be. I woke up early around 5:00 a.m. It was starting to rain outside. I remember standing on the bed on my tip toes trying to look out the window. Just as I turned around, this hole was forming in the middle of my bed!

I was too young to be scared, only curious. At first, it took on a swirly ripply kind of vortex then it became a hole, a REAL hole! Being curious, I naturally peered in. The hole wasn't black and was lit from within, about the same dimensions of a manhole. It even looked like one with a ladder that went around, metal hand rungs and everything.

I could hear faintly some noises like a bunch of machinery running and a great hum. It even vibrated the bed slightly. I decided to climb into the hole and went probably about 20 steps down the ladder. As I descended, the noise got louder -- almost ear splitting. As I descended further I saw a huge factory.

I had a bird's-eye-view from the ceiling of the warehouse/factory. Men were working on what looked like engines of some sort. All the workers were men and they were all dressed in dark blue shirts and some in dark blue coveralls. The walls were concrete blocks painted green with long but short windows that trimmed the top of the walls.

The noise was horrible and everyone was shouting to be heard over the din. I couldn't figure out how or why this came to be. The noise was so bad I could only stand it for about a minute and went back up the ladder. After I climbed out, I tried to wake my brother, but I couldn't get him up. I wanted him to watch me as I went back down the hole. The hole was still there and I knew this was not a normal experience, so in order to satisfy my sanity I went down the hole again hoping to make sense of this.

Same thing again, workers in blue and loud engines being built and tested. I stayed this time for as long as I could, about three minutes or so and just watched the men work. No one seemed to notice me. For some reason, I started to get scared and thought if the hole closed up I wouldn't be able to get back. I climbed back up, and just in time, because the hole just vanished just as soon as I came back out.

It never made a sound vanishing, no vortex like when it first formed, it was plain just was not there anymore. I was sort of disappointed that what I saw was just a bunch of guys working on some boring engines. You would think if you found an amazing hole in the middle of your bed there might be something more interesting to see!

Of course I told my mother and she said I was dreaming, and I said I wasn't. I KNOW I was not dreaming: the noise, the physical act of climbing up and down, studying this thing quite intensely for the 15 minutes or so that it existed in the middle of my bed.

I have no idea what this experience was, or means. I remember this event as if it happened yesterday and I am 53 now. Could this possibly have been a time slip of sort? It's one of those strange experiences from my childhood that defy explanation.

Baby Monitor Time Warp

by Sheri

As usual, the long work day was coming to an end and I was dutifully putting the last load of laundered clothes away in our bedroom when I heard a ruckus on the baby monitor just a few feet away from me. I thought it strange when I knew my husband and toddler were both in the living room quietly watching TV as my two-year-old drifted silently off to sleep curled in my husband's lap as he caught the evening news. The bedroom door was straight in front of me and I could see all the way down the hall to my husband and son in the Lazyboy chair as this ruckus over the monitor continued.

It didn't take long for me to realize the sounds were very familiar. Earlier in the day, I was in my toddler's bedroom putting a load of folded clothes into the drawers and picked up some stray toys and books that weren't being played with at the time. As I was doing so, I was telling my son about the story of "Jack and The Beanstalk" for the first time.

Now I stood in disbelief as I heard the drawers being pulled open and shut and rustling of the toys and books being put into their proper places. But I nearly fainted when I heard my son's voice over the monitor! I kept looking back and forth at my husband and now-sleeping son in the chair in the living room and the monitor sitting on my dresser that was literally replaying the specific events from earlier in the day!

The monitor is a standard baby monitor bought from Wal-mart and is NOT a recorder, but instead monitors the sounds coming from the room as they are happening at present time only. I listened as my voice retold the story of "Jack and The Beanstalk" and listened with familiarity as my son responded in baby-talk to the tail he had never heard before. The incredible part was this all happened five hours earlier on the same day!

Missing Time and Out of Place

by Cher

I was leaving my driveway to drive one mile to town. There were woods and few houses along the way. I had just pulled out and there was a thick fog rolling in. Very creepy at night. I had only gone a half a block at most very slowly when I saw a very bright light through the fog. This was very strange since there was nothing near my house.

As I drove closer, I saw a Phillips 66 gas station. It wasn't there the day before. I pulled into it in shock and a man came out. I asked him how a gas station could have been built so fast and he looked at me strangely. He said it had been there for eight years.

I asked him where I was and when he told me I began to shake uncontrollaby. I was 300 miles from home! I looked at the clock and I had left my driveway only two minutes before. It took all night to drive home and I shook most of the way.

Lost Time at the Movies

by Retro

One afternoon back in the late '80s, I decided to see a movie by myself . I arrived to view the movie at 4:45. I parked the car, ran to the outside ticket booth and paid for my ticket. I walked in, watched the entire movie and when the credits rolled, I got up and walked out front. I felt funny when walking to the theatre door to the looby, like I was standing in more than one spot at the same time. It didn't hurt and it wasnt uncomfortable, just unusual.

I thought maybe it was because I had been sitting for quite awhile. On my way out of the theatre, I noticed I didn't see anyone. Not one person in the actual theatre lobby. I walked outside, which seemed a little bright for the time of day it should have been and got into my car.

After starting the car, I noticed the time showing was a little after 5 o'clock. I looked at my watch which showed what I thought was the correct time of 6:30. After walking into my home, I noticed that the clock had 5:15 on it. I don't know what happened that day. I know I saw the entire movie, but apparently I was only in the theatre for 15 minutes. It still haunts me to this day.

Blip In Time

by Glenn

This incident happened to me when I was a university student in Nova Scotia, Canada in about 1991. I decided to take the express bus to my home town one night to visit my parents for the weekend. I sat at the back of the bus and there was nobody around me, but there was a family sitting behind the driver in the front. The bus ride was uneventful until we came close to my parents home town.

I was looking out the window and I looked at the Michelin tire factory as we went by it going uphill. When the bus reached the top of the hill, I got a strange feeling and for some unknown reason I started to imagine many people on the bus laughing at me!

Right then there was a blip in reality and the bus was suddenly about a mile back on the highway! I then had the experience of watching the bus drive by the tire factory again! This kind of scared me and I noticed that the family sitting in the front, who were talking loudly before, were now dead quiet.

I approached the bus driver when we stopped and told him what I thought happened. He looked really nervous and he said something like, "Things like that happen." It was like a distortion in time and space.

Instant Replay

by Ryan Bratton

This happened when I was about eight. My friend and I were sitting on his yard while some kids rode their bikes down a downhill driveway. A car came down the road and stopped at a house. A kid got out and ran inside making noises that kids around his age make. Then a girl rode her bike down the driveway. A couple of minutes after this happened, the SAME car went down the road, stopped at the house, and the SAME kid got out of the car and ran inside screaming the EXACT things he had been saying. Then the girl went down the hill on her bike AGAIN. I looked over to my friend and he said he had no idea what had just happened.
